DEMENTIA & ALZHEIMER’S CARE PROGRAM

Rooted in a tradition of excellence in long-term nursing care, our extensive experience enables us to better respond to the unique challenges of rehabilitation for our older population and enhances our ability to restore patients to the highest levels of form, function, and independence.

For those with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, our facility offers a home-like environment and advanced safety features to address our residents’ special needs.

A master clinician certified in dementia management oversees a structured schedule of innovative programming, which provides a sense of purpose and meaning, as well as daily opportunities for success.

HIV/AIDS CARE

Residents with HIV/AIDS conditions benefit from coordination between CathedralCare, the Rainbow Clinic, and the Volunteers in Medicine Clinic in Jacksonville, to ensure their confidential treatment.

HOSPICE PROGRAM

Compassionate hospice support is among the many specialty programs offered at our facility. In collaboration with local hospice services, we provide care designed to support you and your loved ones in the final stage of terminal illness.

Consisting of pain and symptom management, palliative care, counseling, and spiritual support, our team of hospice professionals works to address the unique needs of each individual and family we serve. Our focus is on making each day a meaningful one, and preserving dignity through compassion and choice.

PSYCHOTHERAPY

WOUND CARE PROGRAM

CathedralCare takes on some of the toughest wound care cases. Pressure sores, sometimes referred to as “pressure ulcers” or “bed sores,” are painful and often slow-healing wounds that typically occur when something keeps rubbing or pressing against the skin. That kind of constant pressure reduces the blood supply to the area. Over time, the skin can break down and form an open sore, even impacting the tissues beneath the skin.

Pressure sores most commonly occur on the buttocks, elbows, hips, heels, ankles, shoulders, back and even the back of the head. Such skin lesions are often associated with people who have paralysis or conditions causing limited mobility, which puts constant pressure on the skin and tissues.

The elderly population is particularly susceptible to pressure sores because the aging process makes skin thinner and less elastic. However, young people also get pressure sores that can develop even from household injuries.

Pressure ulcers are rated as Stage 1, 2, 3 and 4, with Stage 4 pressure sores being the worst. In fact, in those cases, the ulcers can become so deep that damage is created to the muscle and bone and sometimes even to tendons and joints.

Unlike most nursing homes, CathedralCare doesn’t shy away from admitting residents with severe cases requiring wound care or pressure sore care. We readily admit even Stage 3 and Stage 4 wound cases.

In severe cases, our specialized nursing staff may use what’s known as a “wound vacuum” to draw fluids away from the affected area, relieve pressure, and promote faster healing.

We have a high success rate of healing even the worst wounds, thanks to our two full-time wound specialists.
